5 Ways to Develop a Positive Environment in Your Workplace

Boost Positivity and Moral

It is common knowledge that employers, who make a concerted effort to keep their employees happy, keep their moral high and generally strive to create a positive environment for them to work in, enjoy the benefits of higher productivity and therefore higher profitability.

But what if this is not the case in your workplace? How do you create positive attitudes amoungst employees and have them become enthusiastic about their work? Here are a few suggestions that I have seen in operation that have definitely made the workplace a much more pleasant place to be.

1. The big breakfast.

Monday morning blues are very common amongst workers, so it is helpful to give your staff something to look forward to. Why not invite your staff to partake of a nice breakfast every Monday morning? You could add an extra incentive for them to get to work on time by inviting them to arrive half an hour earlier so that they can enjoy a nice relaxing breakfast before starting work.

2. The Fun Day.

Every work place should have a fun day. Unlike the now popular family day, the fun day is strictly about improving relationships between the employees. It is a time for everyone from Executive to receptionist to get together like normal human beings and enjoy an outdoor activity together. Once employer I worked for organized a cricket match for the fun day. Let your imagination run wild, I am sure you can come up with something that everyone can enjoy.

3. Complaint Free Days.

You may by now have heard of Will Bowen, founder of Complain Free World. Will Bowen challenged the world to go 23 days without complaining. This is a great way to create a buzz in the workplace. I know because I have done it. Go to http://www.acomplaintfreeworld.org and get a batch of purple ‘complaint free world’ wristbands and distribute them amongst your employees. Start off by challenging your staff to work a whole day without complaining and designating one particular day as complaint free day.

4. Dress Up Fridays

I know we have all done dress down Fridays, but whom wants to dress down, why not dress up for work? The ladies can step out in their highest heels and shortest skirts and the guy can get their groove on in the hottest designer pants, shoes and shirts. Ok mini skirts may not be appropriate for all workplaces but again use your imagination think of something that will suit your particular business.

5. The Staff Party

Again many employers hold an annual office, Christmas or new years party, this is nothing new, but too often that party is cheaply done and held in the same place that you work in. Dare to do something different. I once worked at a hotel that used to close for one night a year and invite every single staff member on a midnight cruise. They would hire top chefs for the night to prepare the food and we always had the hottest bands and DJ’s to provide the music. Look at it this way; it is the one night of the year that you get to show your employees how much you value and respect them, do it right.

Do not ever take your employees for granted, show them that you care about them, respect them and need them. Most importantly, give them something other than work to look forward to.

If you can do this, in return you will have a happier more positive workforce who feel appreciated and in return they will show you their worth by continually improving their performance and putting money in the bank for you.
