Going to college is like entering a room full of people but you don t know anyone in there. There environment could be different unless you are in the same university as in your high school. But even then, many things are foreign. Being naive would never serve as an excuse.

Being in college entails many responsibilities. You have to let go of your care free self and strive harder this time around. This is anyway your stepping stone for your bright future.

Here are some tips that can help surviving in college:

Beat deadlines. Cramming is never an option especially if it is about an important project that mostly defines your end grade. Although sometimes cramming can be beneficial too. Beneficial in a way that would depend on each person s ability and habit.

Take down notes. Don t ever assume that everything your professor has discussed can be found in textbooks. Although some bookish professors would do. But more often than not, professors can be cunning. They would like to give quizzes and exams for the things they have discussed and not from the things you can read which will include those that he discussed freely in the class. Taking down important notes would always prove to be helpful. Notes from older students you know could also help although having your own is beneficial in many ways.

Meet new friends. They can be pillars of support during crunch times. They can be study groups you can belong to. Belonging to a study group who happen to be your friends is not only fun but also comfortable to study with. There are is no such dull moments when you study with your friends especially when you discuss things according to each one s own understanding of the subject at hand.

Have a good study habit. It doesn t matter how many minutes or hours you can spend studying as long as it is regular and constant, it is already a good thing in itself. You should be able to recognize your attention span once you get the hang of your study habit.

Don t quit. College can be very exhausting and stressing but if you really want to survive it, don t you quit. You can take a rest in between crunch times like going to movies after a long tiring exam. There is nothing wrong with taking a break once in a while, just don t take the habit of prolonging the time of that break otherwise it would get harder to go by.

Always take into account that you are fortunate studying in college while many others cannot. Many could not study because of physical limitations and lack of financial support. Lack of motivation and discipline is simply a lame reason. You can either take one path or the other but never both. Come on, take the challenge. I m sure you will find college is indeed fun just as long as you know how to play your cards. Its a matter of survival and fitting in, focus your mind and learn.
