Pregnancy is a life changing event for a woman. She’s going to experience a great deal of these changes that affect all aspects of her life including physical, emotional, and even changes in her environment. During pregnancy a woman’s body can change in drastic ways that can be difficult to cope with, her hormones are going haywire, and all the while she must prepare to be a mother, which is a lifelong job. Pregnancy is a wonderful and joyous time, and if you understand all these changes about your body, your emotions, and how to prepare the rest of your life to welcome a baby into the world, you czn experience a smooth pregnancy with easy transitions.

It turns out that the development of a human life is a complicated process! During pregnancy your body is going to do some wacky things. And the truth of the matter is that every woman’s body is going to react differently, and even every pregnancy that a woman has is going to be different from the others. With all the things that can transpire during pregnancy, it can be scary waters for a new mother to be to enter. There’s no reason to fear, because billions of mothers have already traveled this way, and although every journey is different, there are enough similarities among women to piece together a useful roadmap for you. Also, there are legions of healthcare professionals including doctors, midwives, nurses, nutrtionists, PAs, and other specialists who have devoted their lives to bringing healthy babies into the world.

As soon as you find out that you’re pregnant, it’s necessary to get your butt to the doctor to make sure everything’s going ok so far. After you find out everything is doing well, the planning process must begin full swing. You need to decide if you want to go the hospital delivery route, or if you’d like more peaceful surroundings with a midwife. Also, you’ll want to double check your diet and make sure you’re eating tons of vegetables, fruits, and proteins to give your baby all the essential nutrients it needs to grow. Morning sickness might prevent you from eating some foods during your pregnancy, even foods that are considered healthy. Pay attention to what your body’s telling you, and even listen to your cravings. If your body is craving a certain food, it probably means the baby needs an essential nutrient found in the food – like the calcium and fat in ice cream. But remember that you need to stay healthy too; so don’t gain more weight than you need to gain during your pregnancy. High blood pressure and other health complications due to an unhealthy weight can lead to a difficult pregnancy and delivery.

Seek Community

To ease worries, and keep yourself informed about your pregnancy, it’s really a good idea to meet other pregnant women to swap stories and get advice. There are a gazillion great places to interact with other mothers, or soon to be mothers on the internet. There are lots of articles, blogs, forums, and messaging communities. You can even locate other pregnant women and moms in your area. Building these relationships with women who understand your situation is going to be invaluable to you as you navigate through the ups and downs of pregnancy, and then with the much more complicated world of motherhood. A healthy support system is a must during these times, and the best kinds of support come from those who can share your joys, pains, and everything in between with a true sense of empathy.
