Emergencies are something which none of us like to consider. The worst case scenario is something which nobody wants to think about, yet it is important to be prepared for the possibility of an accident or a mechanical breakdown of our cars. You are always better off being ready for the unthinkable than you are being caught off guard by an emergency situation. There are some emergency items which you should always have in your car; read on to see a few of these vital items.

The most important emergency items to keep in your car at all times are a spare tire and a jack, as well as a tire iron. While many of us have AAA and other emergency automotive coverage, what if you were to have a flat tire in the middle of nowhere? You may not be within range of a cell phone tower in order to call a mechanic. You should always have these items in your car and make sure that you know how to use them before you face a situation where you will need them.

Second is emergency road flares. You can purchase these flares at nearly any automotive shop. Road flares are used to draw attention (and hopefully help) to your vehicle when you experience a breakdown or other trouble while on the road. Always keep at least a few of these in your trunk; they can be a great help if you run into trouble.

You should also carry a blanket in your car in case you are ever stranded or have a breakdown during winter; this can keep you comfortable and warm until help arrives. You can keep this in your trunk or under a seat. Consider carrying some bottled in your water in your car as well, along with some antifreeze and extra motor oil – along with a funnel. The antifreeze and oil are great to have for emergencies where you need one or the other to make it to a repair shop or other assistance, while the water is for drinking purposes when you are stranded, especially in summer heat.

Another important thing to keep in your car for emergencies is one which people may not think of often, but is no less vital because it is often overlooked. This is a first aid kit. If you are involved in an accident away from where help can get to you immediately, this will come in very handy. You can purchase a good first aid kit at any large discount store and believe me, when you need it you will be very glad that you keep one in your car. Keeping some of these emergency items on hand in your car can quite literally be life savers when you run into trouble.
