Kitchens are usually one of the most accentuated parts of anybody’s house. They require well thought out designs. They call for quality appliances. They demand for a look that will not only tell of the delicacies it can prepare but also how well it can be presented. They, in a way, show and tell something about your personal style. It is a face.

Kitchens are faceless without its hardware and doors. Since these doors are the first things you would often see, you have to remember to finish them off with the something you would want to look at for years. You have also to remember two things when choosing the material for your kitchen doors – durability and low maintenance.

Now, you have to choose the material of your kitchen door – wood, laminate, glass, and steel.

When you set your mind on a wooden kitchen door, would you go for solid wood or just wood veneers? The latter is said to be cheaper and less susceptible to weather conditions outside. While the temperature and humidity of outside conditions may affect solid wooden kitchen doors, the greater influence comes from the temperature and humidity of kitchen activities. Veneer gives off a sense of uniformity as it can be cut thinly to cover the entire door. Wood is available in many colors. It can also have the finish you want – glossed, varnished, painted, washed or waxed.

Laminate kitchen doors can have a variety of textures and colors, even more than that of the wooden ones. You can go for any look. If you want to project a soft feel in your kitchen, you can use creamy colors with a matte finish. If you want to show off elegance, go for an Italian style kitchen door with bold fronts and shining colors. In this style, the choice of handles will totally set the kitchen off. One great advantage of laminate kitchen doors when compared to others is that it is almost maintenance free! While wood needs all the care and attention it can get and may be subject to temperature and humidity changes, laminate kitchen doors just need the occasional wipe or two, then, voila, it is clean again. Another interesting feature of laminate is that it is less prone to wear and tears and has the ability to maintain fresh looking throughout several number of years. However, laminate may not be the ideal material for kitchen worktops.

Glass kitchen doors are used to display a collection of cutlery. You may also use frosted glass for a concealed appeal, however, still visible. Glass doors can be versatile no matter your room theme is – be it traditional or contemporary.

Stainless steel can also be used as a material for kitchen doors. However, it is more popular being worktops and appliance casing than doors. It can give its own character. It looks clean, sparkly, polished and matured. It is durable. However, stainless steel doors can also call for a cost. It is low maintenance, too, as it can be cleaned easily. To make it look warm, you have to combine it warm colors.
