Three Popular Niches For Personal Shoppers

So you want to take the plunge and become a personal shopper. Good for you! You’ve chosen a fun and potentially lucrative at home career. But now you have another decision to make which aspect of personal shopping to zone in on. Here are three specific niches to consider as you begin your business as a personal shopper.

1. Clothing

Are you frequently complimented on your style, putting together great outfits, or your ability to accessorize? Maybe you can look at someone and know, instinctively, what types of clothing would look best on them. Or, perhaps you can size a person without even utilizing the tape measure. This is a gift! And clothing may just be your personal shopper niche.

Many women simply don’t have the time to shop because they are busy with their careers or busy mothers with small children – or both! There are other women who simply want help updating their wardrobe. Maybe they don’t have a flare for fashion and have no idea where to start. Then there are those men who would love to enlist your help in shopping either for business suits for themselves, or clothing for their wives or girlfriends.

Whatever the reason, you may be surprised at just how many people, when asked, will jump at the chance for a personal clothing shopper.

2. Groceries

Everyone needs to eat. But not everyone can get to the grocery store.

Elderly people can’t always get to the store due to physical causes or because they don’t have anyone to bring them. When they need an item or two, it’s often impossible for them to jump in the car and head to the grocery store. Having someone available who is able to make a quick run for them is a huge relief. If you have a heart for helping the elderly, this is the perfect niche for you. Plus, as word gets around, you may soon have twelve clients from one particular retirement home or senior citizen center.

Another client to target is the one who absolutely loathes grocery shopping and will gladly pay someone to do it for them. Keep your ears open for people who complain about shopping and be prepared to hand them your business card.

3. Gifts

If you have a knack for gift giving, for being able to analyze people’s personalities and knowing just the right thing to buy, you’ll be successful as a personal gift shopper.

A good place to start is with business executives who regularly purchase gifts for secretaries, employees or clients. Professional business people are often short on time and will appreciate your help. Ask specific questions about the person receiving the gift (favorite colors, interests, etc.) so you know just what types of things to shop for.

While people buy gifts all throughout the year, an extra profitable time for you as a personal shopper will be around the holidays when the demand for gifts is great but the busyness of the season cuts into the available time to shop for them. You may want to seize that opportunity to promote your personal shopping business.

Other possible niches for personal shoppers include shopping for events, parties, furniture and home décor, or toys. You may even choose to offer your Internet ordering services and shop from the comfort of your own home while having the items shipped directly to your customer. No matter what niche you choose, in today’s busy world, there will always be people willing to pay someone to do their shopping for them. Why shouldn’t that someone be you?
