Do you know ROY G. BIV? Actually, that is a common mnemonic used to memorize the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Each color creates certain messages, some of which are universal. Colors can influence various aspects of our lives, such as the cars that we drive and the food that we eat. It is also influential in the history of medical attire, including today s cheap landau scrubs. Here are various colors that have been included in different attire:

1. White

White has different meanings in different contexts. In the world of physics, white is the presence of all colors, while black is the absence of all colors. However, in the art world, the opposite is true. You can verify this in the artwork of children, whose multiple layers of colored crayons produces black.

Today, medical professionals such as doctors and dentists, often wear white lab coats. This is a practical color, as it complements any colored professional clothing that the person wears underneath.

However, this was also the color of the first surgical attire that surgery personnel wore, during the 1940s. The white attire became problematic in surgery rooms. The reason is that white reflects both heat and light rays. One reason is that the white environment created no contrasts for the workers eyes. Another is that their clothing would reflect the bright lights of the operating room. Finally, the redness of blood created a stark contrast with the white clothing of the surgery personnel.

2. Green

That brings us to the 1940s. Considering the multiple problems that white medical clothing caused for surgeons, it is not surprising that green was the new white, by the 1950s. The new color created a better contrast with the white environment of the operating room. Furthermore, it created less eyestrain, as there was less reflection of the room s bright lights.

In addition, green has some important universal meanings. For instance, green creates connotations related to nature. Plants, leaves, and grass are green. Additionally, green has a calming effect on people s emotional state. For instance, a green room is where people in a TV studio or theater, can rest. There is a reason why the room is green, instead of red or purple.

3. Blue

Light blue is another common color of scrubs. Blue also includes various universal meanings, including truth, peace, and youth.

4. Pink

Some hospitals have begun using pink scrubs, but not for the psychological affect on employees or patients. The purpose is to prevent theft of the scrubs. Pink is the universal color of love. However, it reveals less passion than red does. Instead, pink has a claiming effect on people, creating feelings of relaxation and contentment.

Today s scrubs are available for medical personnel, in a variety of sizes, patterns, and colors. Various colors can create different effects on our psyche, based on the universal scientific and cultural meanings they have. When choosing scrubs, make sure to realize that colors can talk without saying a word!
